The world is made up of several parasites.  Some are smaller, some are bigger; some are dangerous and many are perfectly harmless.  However,  few are as disturbing to humans as the lowly bed bug.

Small parasites like dust mites can be found in virtually every mattress.  Other, bigger insects called bed bugs are also found in many homes in North America, and around the world.  Due in part to increased foreign travel, bed bugs are making their way across the continent, taking up residence in hotels,  motels, restaurants,  apartments, ostels,  shelters and family homes.       Read more . . .

Generally, almost for as long as people have been sleeping in beds, people have been sleeping with bed bugs.  These pesky insects have been documented in history as far back as the Medieval times in Europe, and can be traced in Greek history to the era of Aristotle.  Throughout the ages, there have been countless stories of hapless victims of bed bugs, all of them bad.

We say, “Good night,  sleep tight,  don’t let the bed bugs bite”.

Many of us have heard this more times than we can count,  but have always taken it as little more than a nighttime sentiment.  However, just a few decades ago,  bed bugs played a very real role in our sleeping arrangements.

Due to the widespread use of DDT’s in the 1940s and 1950s,  bed bugs were all but eradicated in the United States. But these nocturnal  insects are making a comeback. Hotels and motels,  for instance,  often fall victim to bed bug infestations.     Read more . . .

Bed bugs are a nasty fact of life that everyone is aware of, but no one likes to deal with.  Here’s another nasty information: you may be living with them and you don’t even know it.

Many people are affected by bed bugs, but they just don’t recognize the signs.  This is perfectly understandable, as bed bugs are among those nuisances that were all but exterminated during the widespread use of DDT in the United States after World War I.

There are several reasons that bed bugs have become a recurring problem, as well as increased travel to and from other parts of the world.  The average person won’t detect that there is a problem until they become plagued with excessive itching and oval-shaped insect bite marks.  Even then, these bites are often mistaken for dust mite or mosquito bites.
